Pust

Last week people in Slovenija celebrated Fat Tuesday. They call it Pust. Children and adults get dressed into costumes and put on some masks. Tinka and I went to Kindergarten where children wore different costumes. We were also in disguise.

The biggest surprise of all were the Koranti. The main figure, called Kurent or Korent, wears a massive sheepskin garment and a chain with huge bells around its waist, resulting in the noise the function of which is to "chase away winter" and to bring in Spring. Kurentovanje is an important Slovenian carnival festival celebrated in Ptuj. They visited the children. Here are some photos.
